The Research Institute for Aquaculture No. 2 has handed over 101,000 mature tra breeder fish to eight Mekong Delta provinces and Can Tho city as part of efforts to improve the quality of tra stock in the region.

According to Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Viet Nam’s seafood production in Jan-Mar is estimated to reach 1.134 million MT, up 3% year-on-year including 622,000MT of captured products and 512,000MT of farmed products.

In 2011, An Giang province shipped 144,000MT of seafood, worth US$400 million, down 3.4% in volume but up 19.5% in value year on year.

According to An Giang Newspaper, the local aquaculture area has decrease by 14% year on year to 2,750ha, including 960ha for Pangasius farming.
