Seafood production hikes in the first seven months.
Thursday, August 25, 2011 09:27

Viet Nam’s seafood production is estimated to reach 527 thousand tons in July, driving the total of the first seven months to 3.039 million tons, up 3.3% year on year.

The catch experienced an increase of 4.7% year on year to 1.476 million tons, including 1.38 millions tons from marine waters and 96,000 tons from inland.

High catch was recorded in Kien Giang (231,206 tons), Ba Ria - Vung Tau (158,534 tons), Ca Mau (94,860 tons), Binh Thuan (90,932 tons), Binh Dinh (79,134 tons), Quang Ngai (67,018 tons), and Phu Yen (5,432 tons). The high price of seafood was encouraging fishermen to go fishing; however, they still face difficulties due to the rising gasoline price.

Aquaculture production in July marked 303,000 tons, bringing the seven-month figure to 1.563 million tons, an increase of 5.2% year on year.

Seafood export is estimated to achieve USS$ 500 million in July and US$3.1 billion in (up 24.8%) the first seven month. Export to large markets experienced a high growth in volume and value, especially US (48.8%), China (60.5%), Canada (66.2%).
